Smoke And Mirrors

In the frigid winter of 1951, the coastal town of Brighton is shaken by a grim discovery. Two children are found lifeless in the snow, surrounded by candy in a macabre tableau that the media quickly labels the Hansel and Gretel case. The tragedy casts a heavy shadow over the local theater scene, where illusionist Max Mephisto is currently performing in a seasonal production.

Detective Inspector Edgar Stephens takes charge of the investigation and realizes that the insular entertainment community might be hiding crucial evidence. To navigate this secretive environment, he calls upon his former military companion, Max, for insider assistance. Their primary lead is a deeply unsettling, unfinished script written by one of the young victims.

As the duo digs deeper into the performers' lives, a veteran entertainer recalls a chillingly similar crime from decades past. Stephens and Mephisto must unravel the unsettling history of traditional stage shows to identify the culprit.
